Tokyo’s stock market closes down
TOKYO – The stock market in Tokyo has firmly closed on the first day of the new trading year. The Nikkei 225 index’s leading values listed for trading end a significant profit of 108 points or 1.03 per cent with the score at 10 654 points. The broader Topix also rose by 8 clear points or 0.90 percent to 915 points. Dealer named as a reason for the surcharges, the recent weakening of the yen against the dollar.
